Evangelism

GOOD NEWS!

'The spirit of the sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.
'
Isaiah 61:1

What is evangelism? 'Ev' is derived from the Greek word for 'good.' 'Angel' is derived from the Greek word for news or messenger. So evangelism is sharing the good news about Jesus!

As a CU we are ALL about evangelism – we all want to share, speak, walk and live the good news of Jesus. Specific within this, the ‘evange team’ are responsible for particular events during the year. The whole CU is an ‘evange team’ but here in the safety of our evangelism page, we’re just the extra keen ones!!

As well as living lives that constantly share the good news of Jesus, and being a part of a CU that is all about evangelism, here are some of the things the evange team are doing at the moment...

Alpha – ask your friends to go! We've all got questions. From "Why does toast always fall butter side down?" to "Is this it?" or "Is God a delusion?". Student Alpha is the perfect place to explore the Christian faith, ask questions and discover there's a God who knows and loves you. Launch Party at Native State this Saturday, 5-7pm. Check it out. No commitment.

Street-evange - we give out free tea, coffee & hot chocolate outside various night clubs during the week, which often leads to great opportunities to share our faith with students passing by. We meet at Buccleuch church every Friday night after CU team meeting about 10pm for some apologetics based training and then go out onto the streets! Our training reflects the command that Paul gives us in 1 Peter 3;15 - 'Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.

Don’t forget to check out the website for all the great events we're planning in the coming weeks, and invite your friends along. Our Pudding Party in November is a great opportunity to invite your friends into the CU community.

Remember the great commission Jesus gives us:

'Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the father, the son and the holy spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.' (Matthew 28:19-20)

So pray that God would open doors for you to speak this amazing message to people who desperately need to hear it!
