Who Are We?

Edinburgh University Christian Union (EUCU) is an open community of Christians which exists to support, encourage and explore what the Good News of Jesus means as we go through uni together, living for and speaking about Jesus. We aren’t a church, but a missionary community seeking to share Jesus in our lives with all those we come into contact with. We come from a huge range of backgrounds and churches, but are united in our belief in Jesus Christ and what he has done for us, and would love to see you whether you would call yourself a Christian or not.

Our vision for this year is to be the united body of Christ, motivated by grace, to live worshipful lives, conveying the hope of salvation. In our Friday night team meetings and throughout the rest of the week, we will be exploring and practicing what this could mean for us as students in our time at Edinburgh University.

What do we do?

Being a missionary community within the university we meet regularly during the week. We meet altogether on a Friday evening at 7.30pm in the Chaplaincy em> (Potterow), which usually includes some prayer, praise and hearing from a visiting speaker, focussing on being a ‘four year mission team’ within our university.

Two other major meetings open to all are Prayer Breakfast (yes, breakfast is provided!) – meeting for prayer and breakfast on Wednesday mornings at 7.30am in Buccleuch Church, and CU:Unplugged, a time of worship and waiting on God, at 3.30pm on Wednesday afternoons in the Chaplaincy Chapel.

These all help us in thinking how to share our lives, our faith and what Christianity is all about with our friends, and all those around us whilst we’re at uni – a wonderful privilege and though we by no means have all the answers, we would love you to come along so that you can share in all that goes on.

Throughout the week, there are various other activities and meetings running – faculty groups, football, worship, prayer meetings, small groups – you name it, we probably do it. And if we don’t, then you can probably start it! There’s more about lots of this stuff on the team pages, so find out some more there, or get in touch if you want to find out any more about what goes on.
